Allâh's word:

يا أيها الذين آمنوا استعينوا بالصبر والصلاة إن الله مع الصابرين

O you who believe! Seek help with patient Perseverance and Prayer: for Allâh is with those who patiently persevere. (Al-Baqarah: 153)

is a divine guidance whose blessing was gotten by a sister of ours that suddenly lost her parents, brother and sister in an accident the day before. When the calamity became hard on her she recollected this verse and rushed to perform prayer certainly believing in the word of her Lord. Here she is to swear that a tremendous tranquility came upon her heart and her anguish was relieved. That is a practical emphasis of the impact of meditating the Qur'aan and acting upon its teachings in the life and all circumstances of a servant of Allâh.

How stringent is the need of Mankind under the present rise in prices of commodities to ponder over these verses:

ولنبلونكم بشيء من الخوف والجوع ونقص من الأموال والأنفس والثمرات....وإنا إليه راجعون

Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.

Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allâh we belong, and to Him is our return"

They are those on whom (descend) blessings from their Lord, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance. (Al-Baqarah: 155-157)

Therefore reflect over the lessons it embodies from As-Sa'dy's book of Tafseer (may Allâh bestow mercy on him).

Deliberate on His word - the most High

ولا تتبعوا خطوات الشيطان

And do not follow the footsteps of the Evil One, (Al-Baqarah: 168 )

Branding the devil's act of inducement as footsteps has two indications:

One: A footstep is a short distance. This is how the devil starts his inducement with a little bit of innovation or disobedience till the soul becomes accustomed to it.

Two: His word : خطوات meaning footsteps indicates that the Satan (Devil) will never halt at the first step of disobedience.
