Prayer Time

Believing in Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is an integral part of the Islamic faith. A Muslim, as a matter of obligation must accept and belief that Muhammad peace be upon him is the Messenger of God and the seal of the Prophets and Messengers. As per Muhammad peace be unto him being the last Prophet and Messenger of Allah, Allah the Almighty said:

"Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward." (Q48:29).

"Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing." (Q33:40).

These are some of the biggest testimonies to the Prophethood of Muhammad peace be upon him, and the fact that there is no, and there will not be a Prophet or Messenger of God to mankind after him. And this is the reason why Allah sent him to the entire mankind and Jinn and made his message a global one, not meant for the Arabs alone and not restricted to the Asians. And his descent to mankind is one of the greatest favours of Allah upon mankind. Allah says,

"Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error." (Q3:164).

With regards to believing in his Prophethood and Messengership, the very wordings of the proclamation that makes one a Muslim encompasses suffices a fact, and it states:

"I bear witness that there is no other God (worthy of worship) but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger!"

And this testimony of faith entails a lot. It entails following his guidance and footsteps as documented in the books of hadith (traditions of the Prophet peace be upon him), loving him and supporting and defending him while he was alive and after his death may Allah's peace be with him.

Following the Prophet peace be upon him is an evidence of belief in him peace be upon him. Anyone who claims faith in the Prophet peace be upon him but does not obey his commandments and follow is guidance in his day to day dealings and interactions with others in the society has lied about his claim to faith or at least is not sincere about such claim. This is because faith is that which has settled in the heart and is proven by deeds.

Allah the Almighty has promised those who follow the "unlettered Prophet" – as Allah described him peace  be upon him, to show them His mercy and he said,

"And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." [Allah] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give Zakah (charity) and those who believe in Our verses -Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful."  (Q7:156-157).

Similarly, He the Almighty promised a bad consequence for those who ignore the guidance of His Messenger peace be upon him and oppose his instructions,

"Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allah knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah (calamity) strike them or a painful punishment." (Q24:63).

As He commanded a wholehearted compliance with the Messengers judgment, saying,

"But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission." (Q4:65).

As for loving him peace be upon him, the Prophet said in one of his traditions; "None of you (truly) believes until I am more beloved to him than his child, his parents and all people." (al-Bukhari). Therefore that person who does not love the Messenger of Allah is not a true believer.

As regarding supporting and defending him, it is a right upon the Muslim nation to  discharge. The companions did it in their best abilities  during his life time and we the successors are to carry same out after his death peace be upon him. It entails defending him whenever his personality or sayings and teachings are under attack in terms of abuse or  discrediting respectively from any quarters. And recently, we have witnessed a lot of that which the Muslim nation must have to arise and totally condemn.
