Some people adopt some harmful customs that are very injurious to their health. Among these are:

Excessive eating.

Dr .Muhammad Abu Gait  is a member of the American Association of obesity stress that Ramadan is a month of fasting and prayers and not eating and being extravagance therein in such a way that leads to fatness and disrupt the movement of the digestive track. What actually happens is that a large majority of fasting people turn their iftar tables into a dining table of various delicacies; ranging from sweets, sugar and oil which brings danger to their health.

Due to the above, the fasting person is thus advised to follow the Prophetic tradition when breaking the fast by eating three or four dates, then a sip of water then thereafter the fasting person waits to observe his prayer so as to prepare his intestines for the rest of his food.

Smoking immediately upon hearing the Adhan of Magrib.

Dr. Taseer Abadatu says: smoking affects the body with much harm. This harm becomes severe when the stomach is empty as the stomach easily absorbs it and utilizes it due to the absence of any food in the stomach.

Drinking tea immediately after breaking the fast.

Dr.Sihr Ibrahim is a professor in charge of children health care she says: the researches that were completed on the issue of drinking tea immediately after food shows that is very harmful, as it prevents the absorption of nutritious ingredients from the food in the intestines such as iron, zinc and calcium. However, there other research works that shows that drinking tea is very beneficial in a great degree as it comprises of other ingredience that prevents oxidation which prevents the infection of dangerous sicknesses such as cancer. Hence, it is advisable to drink tea two hours after meals.

Moderation in the intake of water after iftaar.

Dr. Maajid Muhammad; a professor in inner sickness(endomorphy) stress that water is very important in the activating of the two kidneys, but for potbelly it is only due excess  oil in the stomach region and has no any connection with drinking water and not drinking water.

There are other people who follow another method which is wrong. They drink a great amount of water during the course of the meal or immediately after meals. This makes digestion very difficult, increase the size of the intestines and leads to hunger in the next minute after at least an hour which leads to increment in weight. It is hence, a necessity to drink a small quantity of water periodically after the iftaar.
