SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – The city of Santa Clara has agreed to pay out nearly $500,000 to settle a Muslim resident’s claim that he was unlawfully arrested during a police raid at his home two years ago.

Muhammad Moneeb, a Pakistani-American who is also a US Customs agent, said police with dogs and assault rifles ransacked his home in 2014. The raid involved a stolen camera that was not found.

Moneeb was arrested, but charges against him were later dropped. His attorney told the San Francisco Chronicle that the arrest was illegal.

“This has been a pretty traumatic experience for our family,” Moneeb said in a 2014 interview. “We have been residents of Santa Clara for the past 20 years and everybody was shocked.”

The city is paying Moneeb and his family $350,000 and his legal bills, which are nearly $150,000.
