All praise belong to Allah. May His peace and blessings be upon prophet Muhammad, his households, his companions, and those follow them.

The Torah and Gospel were originally from Allah, may He be exalted, and we are obliged to believe in them because Allah, may He be exalted, says:

“Say (O Muslims), ‘We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibraaheem (Abraham), Ismaa‘eel (Ishmael), Ishaaq (Isaac), Ya‘qoob (Jacob), and to Al-Asbaat (the twelve sons of Ya‘qoob (Jacob)), and that which has been given to Moosa (Moses) and ‘Eesa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam)’”[al-Baqarah 2:136].

“O you who believe! Believe in Allah, and His Messenger (Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)), and the Book (the Quran) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him), and whosoever disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away”[an-Nisa’ 4:136].

One of the pillars of faith in Islam is the belief in all the scriptures revealed by Allah (God), which means belief in all divinely inspired books that were given to the prophets since the time of Abraham, all the way down to prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon them). The two most famous scriptures are the Tawraah (Torah) of Moses (Peace be upon him) and the Injeel (Gospels) of Jesus (Peace be upon him).

But the Torah and Gospel were subjected to distortion and changes. Allah, may He be exalted, says:

“Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, "This is from Allah," to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby” [al-Baqarah 2:79].

An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The books of the Torah and Gospel are among the things that it is prohibited to seek benefit therein, because they changed and altered them.

A few of the Contemporary Muslim Scholars presentations on the Status of the Jewish Bible shall be mentioned in the following.

1 . Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Every Muslim is obliged to believe in them and that they (originally) came from Allah: the Torah, the Gospel and the Psalms (Zaboor). So he believes that Allah sent down the Books to the Prophets, and He revealed to them Scriptures containing commands and prohibitions, exhortation and reminders, stories of some events in the past, descriptions of Paradise and Hell, and so on. But he should not read them, because distortions, alterations and changes have been introduced into them. So he should not keep copies of the Torah, Gospel or Psalms, or read them, because doing that is risky, as it may lead to him disbelieving something that is true or believing something that is false. That is because these books have been distorted and changed, and those Jews, Christians and others have introduced alterations and distortions into them, changing the order of things in some cases. Allah has given us a great Book which means that we have no need of them, namely the Holy Qur’an. End quote from Fataawa Noor ‘ala ad-Darb (1/9)

2 .  Ibn Uthaymin said: The Gospel as it exists at present has been distorted. The evidence for that is that there are four Gospels which differ from one another; there is not one single Gospel, therefore it cannot be relied upon.

3 .  Sheikh Muhammad Saalih Al-Munajjid in a reply to a question on the reason for the differences between the rulings of the Torah and of the Qur’an said: "The Torah as it exists today contains material that one must be certain that is not the words of God; rather it is distortions introduced by those who attributed it falsely to God, may He be exalted. "

4. Abdul Maalik LeBlanc, formerly a Christian from a strong Christian family embraced Islam in the late 1990s after 28 years of his life as a Christian. He studied Islam thoroughly afterwards, he wrote about his journey to islam in a book he named as “The Bible led me to Islam”. Whiles talking about the Jewish Bible and the conflicting verses it contains said:

“Let me pose another question: If a "holy" book Contained conflicting verses, do you still consider it to be holy? Most likely, you will say of course Not. Let me share with you some conflicting verses in the Old and New Testaments: (only that of old Testament cited here)

1-II Samuel 8:4 (vs)    I Chronicles 18:4

2-II Samuel 8:9-10      I Chronicles 18:9-10

5. Dr.Maurice Bucaille

Dr.Bucaille son of Maurice and Marie (James) Bucaille, was a French medical doctor, member of the French Society of Egyptology, and an author of the best seller: “ The Bible, The Qur’an and Science

Bucaille writes that the Old Testament has been distorted (tahrif) because of numerous translations and corrections as it was transmitted orally. He highlights, in his words, "numerous disagreements and repetitions", in the Old Testament and the Gospels. In his analysis, he states that he makes use of many propositions of biblical criticism, such as the documentary hypothesis. He said: “ few of the subjects dealt within the Old Testament, and likewise the Gospels, give rise to a confrontation with the data of modern knowledge. When an incompatibility does occur between the Biblical text and science, however, it is on extremely important points.

He said about errors found in the Jewish Bible (Old Testament) “…historical errors were found in the Bible and we have quoted several of these pinpointed by Jewish and Christian experts in exegesis..”

Citing a typical example of his claim, Dr Maurice Bucaille wrote:

“here is a very typical example: “In Genesis (6,3), God decides just before the Flood henceforth to limit man’s lifespan to one hundred and twenty years, “ his days shall be a hundred and twenty years’’. Furthermore however, we note in Genesis (11,10-32) that the ten descendants of Noah had lifespans that range from 148 to 600 years…” (“ The Bible, The Qur’an and Science”pp:22)
