Holy Quran is the book which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). All praise is due to Allah who showered blessings on His servants by sending revealed books and Prophets. The Holy Quran does not contain any false stories of yore or future. It is a revelation from the Most High, the Almighty. The Holy Quran is a light and therein there is cure of the diseases of mind. Allah destroyed those who opposed the Noble Quran. There is everything in it, small and great. There is no end of its miracle. It is ever fresh and new to the reciters. It is guide for the past and future. The jinn heard it and warned their classes. The Holy Quran is that divine book which Allah revealed to the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).  There is wisdom in each verse of it and each letter of it provides guidance. Hereunder is mentioned some virtues with regards to the excellence of some chapters and verses of the Holy Qur'an over some:

Excellence of Suratul Fatiha

The Surah Fatiha is the greatest and most virtuous Surah of the Holy Qur' an; it consists of the Sab'a mathaani (seven verses which are which are repeatedly recited) and it Surah Faatihah represents the Grand Holy Qur'an. It has come down to us that it is equal to two-thirds of the Holy Qur’an. Were the Faatiha to be put in one balance of the scales and the Holy Qur’an in the other, the Faatiha would outweigh the rest seven times.

Abu Saeed ibn Al-Mu’alla radiyallahu anhu said, "While I was praying in the Masjid, the Prophet(peace be upon him) called me. I did not answer him then, but went to him afterwards and explained that I had been praying, whereupon he asked me whether Allah Ta’ala had not said, ‘Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you.’ adding, ‘Let me teach you the greatest Surah in the Qur’aan before you leave the Masjid.’ He then took me by the hand and when we were about to go out I reminded him of his promise to me that he would teach me the greatest Surah in the Qur’aan. He said, Surah Fatihah which is the seven oft-repeated verses in the Mighty Qur’aan which has been given to me.

The Excellence of Suratul Baqarah

It is reported that Shaytan runs away from the house wherein Surah Baqarah is recited. Recite Surah Baqarah for its recitation is a source of blessings and its forsaking is a source of regret and only useless people are unable to recite it. Everything has a hump and the hump of the Qur'an is Surah Baqarah.

THE EXCELLENCE OF AAYATUL KURSI

Aayatul Kursi is the greatest verse of the Qur’aan. It is the leader of the verses of the Holy Qur’aan. If Aayatul Kursi is recited and blown on one’s belongings or children, the Shaytaan will not dare to come even near such belongings and the children as reported in the Hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah in the Saheeh.

The last two verses of Surah Al-baqarah

It is reported that the prophet(peace be upon him) said: Reciting from Aa-ma-nar Rasul-lu… till the end of the Surah will prevents shaytan from coming even near one's house.

Allah completed Surah Baqarah with such two verses that have been given to me from the treasures kept beneath the Throne; so learn them and teach them to your wives and children for they are a source of mercy, a form of recitation and prayers.

From Ibn Abbas (RA) He said: While Gabriel was sitting with the prophet(peace be upon him) he heard a voice from above, and raised his head. Then he said, "That is the door of heaven, opened today, which was never opened before". And an angel descended from it, and he said," That is an angel come down to earth who never came down before." And he gave a greeting and said," Receive good news of two lights brought to you, which never before brought to a Prophet, Fatihtul-kitab and the last verses(khawatim) of Surahtul-Baqarah; of these shall never recite a single letter without being granted thy request".

Excellence of Surah Rahman

Ali reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger(peace be upon him say "Everything has an adornment and the adornment of the Qur’aan is Ar-Rahman." (Baihaqi)

Excellence of Surah Mulk

Abu Hurairah  reported Allah Ta’ala’s Messenger(peace be upon him) as saying, "A Surah in the Qur’aan containing thirty verses interceded for a man till his sins were forgiven. It was Tabaarakalladhi Biyadihil Mulk." (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Nasai and Ibn Majah). Jabir  said it was the custom of the Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) not to go to sleep until he had read Tabaarakallazi Biyadihil Mulk and Alif Laam Meem Tanzeel. (Ahmad, Tirmighi and Daramee.)

Excellence of Surah Ikhlaas

Abu Darda reported Allah’s Messenger(peace be upon him) as saying, "Is any one of you unable to recite a third of the Qur’aan in a night?" The companions asked, "How could a third be recited?" He replied, "Qul huwallahu ahad is equivalent to a third of the Qur’aan.

Note: Mainly in the Qur’aan there is mention of 3 topics; the unity of Allah Ta’ala, law and stories. Because the unity of Allah has been proclaimed with great eloquence in this Surah, this Surah is equivalent to a third of the Qur’aan.

Some scholars have stated that the recitation of Qul huwallahu ahad in itself earns the reward of reading one third of the Qur’aan. Now, taking into consideration the first opinion, if anyone was to recite Surah Ikhlaas 3 times he wouldn’t necessarily receive the reward of reciting the entire Qur’aan. Whereas if the second opinion is taken into consideration then by reading this Surah 3 times one will receive the reward of the recitation for the whole Qur’aan.

Saeed ibn Musayyib reported in Mursal form that the Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam said, "If anyone recites ten times Qul huwallahu ahad a palace will be built for him in paradise. If anyone recites it twenty times, two palaces will be built for him in paradise owing to it and if anyone recites it thirty times, three palaces will be built for him in paradise because of it."
