In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May Allah bestow His peace and blessings upon His Servant and Messenger Muhammad and upon all of his family and Companions.

Reading the Holy Quran is a great way to overcome turmoil, anxiety and distress, and to relieve us. ٍٍٍٍٍٍٍٍٍSurah Al-Baqarah is the longest surah of the Quran and the prophet (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) highlighted many of its benefits in general and some of its specific benefits. Ayat-ul-Kursi is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah and it is also known as the Verse of the Throne. It is related to Allah’s throne, while the last two verses of Soorat Al-Baqarah were revealed to the prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from a treasure under the Throne, i.e. they are both from the treasure of Allah (SWT), which lies beneath the Throne.” These Quranic verses have many excellences and are used for ruqyah treatment, the treatment of evil eye, black magic, and also for general and comprehensive protection.

The narrations (Ahadith) that speak of the virtues, and excellence, of Ayatul Kursi are numerous. Hereunder are some ;

Excellence of Aayat-ul-Kursi

Recitation of this verse Ayatul Kursi of Holy Quran brings us under the protection of Allah who is the best protector in this world. It is narrated by Abu Hurayah: He said: The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) put me in charge of guarding the zakaah of Ramadaan. Someone came to me and started grabbing (taking illegally) handful of the food. I took hold of him and said, ‘I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.).’ He said, ‘I will teach you some words by means of which Allah will benefit you.’ I said, ‘What are they?’ He said, ‘When you go to your bed, recite this aayah: “Allah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyoom (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists)…” [Surah al-Baqarah, 2:255]. Then Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no Shaytan (devil) will come near you until morning.’ The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) asked me, ‘What did your prisoner do last night?’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, he taught me something, and claimed that Allah would benefit me by it.’ He said, ‘What was it?’ I said, ‘He taught me to recite Aayat al-Kursiy when I go to bed, and said that no Shaytan would come near me until morning, and that Allah would appoint a guard for me who would stay with me.’ The prophet (s.a.w.) said, ‘He told you the truth, although he is an inveterate liar. That was the Shaytan’ [narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3101; Muslim, 505].

Narrated by Ayfa’ ibn Abdul Kila’i: Ayfa’ told of a man who asked Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) which surah of the Qur’an was greatest and was told that it was “Say, He is Allah, One.” He asked which verse of the Qur’an was greatest and was told that it was the Throne Verse, “Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal.” He asked Allah’s Prophet which verse he would like to bring good to him and his people and was told, “The end of Surat Al-Baqarah, for it is one of the treasures of Allah’s mercy from under His throne, which He gave to these people, and there is no good in this world and the next, which it does not include.”
Al-Tirmidhi – Hadith 2169

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone recites in the morning Ha-Mim al-Mu’min to ‘to Him is the final goal, and the Throne Verse, he will be guarded by them till the evening, and if anyone recites them in the evening he will be guarded by them till the morning.” Al-Tirmidhi – Hadith 2144.

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili narrated that the prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: the one who recites it after each of the obligatory prayers, then death will be the only thing preventing him from entering paradise. Ibn Sunni, and Ibn Hibban.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: In Suratul Baqarah there is an Aayah(verse) which is the best of all the Aayahs in the Qur'an, and it is never recited in a house but the Shaytan(the devil) leaves; Aayat-ul-Kursi.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the messenger of Allah(peace and blessings be upon him) said that: Everything has its pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Quran is Surah al-Baqarah. In it there is an ayah which is the greatest in the Quran: Ayat-ul-Kursi. [at-Tirmidhi] . In a narration of Al-Mustadrak, the following words were added, ‘Whenever it is recited in a home, the devil flees there from, that verse is: Ayatul Kursi.’

Once Allah's messenger(peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) asked Ubayy ibn Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him): “Do you know which is the greatest verse in the Qur’an?” He replied, ‘Allah and His prophet(peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) know best.’ Thereafter, the prophet(peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) repeated the question, so Ubayy ibn Ka’b replied, ‘Allahu la ilaha illa huwal yahhul qayyum.’ The prophet (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) tapped his chest (affectionately) and said, “May you be congratulated on your knowledge.” (Sahih Muslim)

Hasan al-Basri (rahimahullah) said: “Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi before sleeping, Allah will send a guard to protect him till he awakens.”

Excellence of Amana-r-Rasul(the last two verses of Baqarah)

From Ibn ‘Abbas ” who said: “While Jibra’eel (Gibrael) ” `May Peace be upon him’ was sitting with the Prophet, he heard the opening of a gate above him. So he raised his head and said: `This is a gate from the skies that has opened today, which has never opened before this day.’ So an angel descended from it (the gate). So he Jibra’eel ” said: “This is an angel that has descended to the earth, which has never descended except today. He gave Salam and said: ‘Receive glad tidings (Oh Muhammad!) with two lights which have been given to you, that have never been given to a Prophet before you: The Opening of the Book (i.e. Surat Al- Fatihah) and the end of Surat Al-Baqarah. Never do you read a letter from either of the two (Surahs) except that you are given it.(Which means that you are given its reward (i.e. the reward of recitation)) (Reported by Muslim) (Taken from Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim with Shaykh AI-Albani’s editing, p.553, Hadith no. 2094.)

It is narrated in a sound Hadith that  “Allaah wrote a book two thousand years before He created the heavens and the Earth, and in it are the last two verses of Soorat Al-Baqarah. The devil will not come near a house in which they are recited for three nights." [Sunan At-Tirmithi and Musnad Ahmad]

It is reported on the authority of Ibn Mas’ud from Rasoolillah (SAW) that he said: “Whoever recited the last two verses of suratul baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.” [Bukhari]

It was said that the meaning of ‘sufficient for him’ is that they are sufficient for him instead of night prayer; it was also said: sufficient as protection from the devil, and it was further said: sufficient as protection from calamities; or possibly all those meanings put together. This is said by Imaam An-Nawawi in Sharh Saheeh Muslim.

On the authority of ‘Abdullah, it is reported that: “When Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was taken on a nocturnal journey (to the seven heavens), he arrived at Sidrat al-Muntaha- a tree in the seventh Heaven and it is at the entrance to the seventh. All things which ascend from the earth stop and are held there as do all things which descend from above (It is with regard to this that). Allah said: “Behold! the Lote tree was shrouded with that which shrouds.” (Qur’an 53: 16) He (the narrator) said: “It (that which shrouded the tree) was (a covering of) golden butterflies.” He further added: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was given three things: He was given five prayers, he was given the concluding verses of Surat Al-Baqarah and forgiveness of sins for those (of his community) who do not associate partners with Allah.” (Muslim)

It is reported on the authority of An-Nu’man Ibn Basheer from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: “Verily, Allah (SWT) wrote something two thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, then He (SWT) sent down from it two verses with which He (SWT) sealed (ended) Surat Al-Baqarah (the cow), and if they are not recited in any house for three nights, Satan approaches it." (Al-Hakim narrated it thus, and declared it authentic in accordance with the conditions of acceptance applied by Muslim)

It is reported from Sa’eed and Ibn ‘Abbas that they said that the Messenger of Allah SAW used to laugh when he read the last verses of Surat Al Baqarah and Ayat Al- Kursi and he would say: “Verily, they are both from the treasure of Allah (SWT), which lies beneath the Throne.” And when he recited: “Whoever does evil will be recompensed accordingly.” (Qur’an 4: 123) And: (And that man will have nothing except what he strives for and that [the fruit of] his striving will be seen, then will he be rewarded with a reward complete.) (Qur’an 53: 39-41), then he would sit back, at ease.” (Narrated by Ibn Mardawaih)

Ibn Jareer reports, on the authority of Mu’adh, that whenever he completed the recitation of this Surah, he would say: “Ameen!” (Oh Allah answer my supplication)
