Barakah bint Tha'labah bin Amr, known as Umm Aiman Al-Habashiyah. She was an Abyssinian slave girl of Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib and his wife Aminah. She was a nursemaid of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). She was freed by the prophet (peace be upon him) when he married to Khadijah, but she fondly stayed with the prophet (peace be upon him) through her life.
She was among the first people to embrace Islam after Khadijah, Alli and Zayd(may Allah be pleased with them) and the prophet(peace be upon him) married her to Ubaid bin Al-Harith Al-Khazraji. She bore for him Ayman.
When Ubaid bin Al-Harith Al-Khazraji died, she then married to Zayd bin Harithah by the prophet(peace be upon him) and bore for him Usamah.
She was present at the Battle of Uhud. She watered the fighters and treated injured. She also prevented the Prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the battle Uhud against the sword of enemy when she saw many men ran-away after rumor of the death of prophet(peace be upon him) .
Umm Ayman sprinkled dust on the face of some fugitives, gave them a spindle and told them: "give me your sword and [you] spin spindle." Then she went toward the battlefield along with several women. Subsequently she was injured by an arrow, which Hibban bin Araqa, an enemy soldier, shot at her. She also accompanied the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the battle of Khaybar and Hunain.
A few hadiths is narrated from Umm Ayman. Those such as Anas ibn Malik, Abu Yazid Madani and Hanash bin Abdullah San'any have narrated from her.
The exact date of Umm Ayman's death is not clear. Ibn Katheer suggested she died approximately five months after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Some suggested she died six month after the prophet's death, while some others suggested that she died after the death of the second caliph(Umar bin Khataab) , and she was buried at the Baqi'i in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah.
May Allah be pleased with her.
