In the name of Allah the Most Merciful the Most Beneficent. Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the seal of God's messengers, our Prophet Muhammad and his family, companions and followers.

Islam and Christianity consider thoroughness and precision as a religious manner. In fact, they are at the very core of Islamic manners and unfortunately, very few people apply this manner and the majority that do, are not religious.

Islam commands Muslims to practice and apply thoroughness and precision, striving for excellence in all they do. Thoroughness and precision are so important that they were actually made obligatory. It has been mentioned in the Qur'an where Allah says:

إنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُون

"Allah commands justice, the doing of good(Ihsan), and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive admonition." Q16:90. Ihsan is a comprehensive concept. It includes doing things completely, nicely and in a tasteful manner. It comprises four components:

1 . Sincerity

2 . Completeness.

3 . Tastefulness (doing things in a pleasant manner) and

4 . Correctness (doing things the right way).

A Muslim who practices thoroughness and precision throughout his life is a person of high quality. He does things in the best manner, in a pleasant and tasteful way, and is never satisfied with anything other than a top-notch quality job in all that he does.

Here is an example of thoroughness and precision. In the famous Hadith, where Jibril (Gabriel) came to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and asked, "Tell me about perfection"? The Prophet replied: "It's to worship Allah as if you can see him, and if you are not able to see him then he could see you". (Narrated by Bukhari, 50/ 4777).

Also, one of the best examples is the example of Abu Bakr- may Allah be pleased with him – who applied excellence in everything he did. When the prophet-peace be upon him- gave permission to the companions to migrate to Madinah, Abu Babr declined to migrate with the companions, secretly hoping that he could accompany the prophet-peace be upon him- on his journey. While he was waiting, he prepared two camels, fed them and made sure they were ready to leave at a moments notice. This is true ihsan, it is only doing the action itself in the best way, but preparing for the action in the best way.

The thoroughness of our actions, deeds and words are all considered part of Islamic manners. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, “Allah (SWT) loves if any of you has done a deed to perfect it". (Narrated by: Tabarani, 901 – Hathami, 98/4 – Al-Siyouti, 5232). Don’t you yearn for Allah’s (SWT) love? Then perfect your actions; the more you work to attain perfection, the more Allah (SWT) loves you.

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, “Allah has written (ordered) perfection on everything…". If you concentrate on these words, you will observe that you are perfect in every way. Didn't the Prophet (PBUH) say: "Allah has written (ordered)..." You are made to be perfect in each and every way. In continuation the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, " verily, Allah has prescribed perfection in all things, so if you kill you should attain perfection when killing, and if you slaughter then you should attain perfection when slaughtering. Let each one of you sharpen his blade and let him spare suffering to the animal he slaughters". (Authentic Hadith, Narrated by Muslim, 1955).

What an unusual example to use? Even while slaughtering a chicken or a lamb, we should be aiming to attain perfection! If we can aim to attain perfection while slaughtering, then we must aim to attain perfection in every other aspect of our lives.

Even, thoroughness and precision include the whole religion of Islam. Ibn Al-Qayim says, "It is the heart of faith and the soul of faith, and if we gathered the benefits of all deeds, from praying, supplicating, invocating and fasting... it would be all considered within Islam".

Furthermore, Christian beliefs also ordered Christians to practice and apply thoroughness and precision in all they do. It is mentioned in the book of Colossians 1:28 : " We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ."  Also in the book of James 1:2 : " Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

Inconclusion, it is very important to apply and implement thoroughness and precision to every aspect of our life. Sometimes we do least possible to get by. Islam shouldn't be understood this way, but rather as a way of life that is based on continuous striving for excellence.
