Eminent Female Companions of Prophet Muhammad-Safiyyah bint Shaibah

Her name was Safiyyah bint Shaibah bn Uthman bn Abi Talha Al-Abdari Al-Qurashi. Her mother was Ba'rrat bint Sufyan bn Sa'eed bn Kaanif bn Al-Aoqas As-sulami. She was a Makkan and she was a companion. Though the scholars differed on her companionship. Some like Imam Ad-Daraaqtni said she was not a companion. But the most superior saying is that she was a companion, because it is narrated with sound chain of narration that she saw the prophet(peace be upon him) on the conquered day of Makkah. Likewise, it is narrated that she saw the prophet(peace be upon him) running between Safah and Marwa.

She married to Abdullah bn Khalid bn Usayd bn Abi Al-Aes bn Umayyah, and she bored a son, Mansoor for him.

She narrated five Ahadith from the prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and among of which is the Hadith while the prophet(peace be upon him) said: Allah has made this city a sanctuary (sacred place) the Day He created the heavens and earth. Therefore, it is a sanctuary until the Day of Resurrection because Allah made it a sanctuary. It was not legal for anyone to fight in it before me, and it was legal for me for a few hours of one day. Therefore, it is a sanctuary until the Day of Resurrection, because Allah made it a sanctuary. None is allowed to uproot its thorny shrubs, or to chase its game, or to pick up something that has fallen, except by a person who announces it publicly, nor should any of its trees be cut. She also reported from Ai'shah, prophet's wife that the prophet(peace be upon him) used to lean on my lap and recite Qur'an while I was in menses.

She also narrated from Ummu Habeebah, Ummu Salamoh – prophet's wives, Asma'u bint Abi-Bakr, aand others. She spent her entire life in the path of Allah, and knowledge of Fiqh. She lived till the Umayyad caliphate. It was said that she died while her age was 90 years.
