Ways to Glorify Al-Mushaf

Praises and all glorifications are due and belong to Allah; the Possessor of strength and power. May Allah’s peace be upon the Prophet and Messenger; Prophet Muhammad, and upon his pure family and lofty companions and all those who follow them in piety until the Day of Recompense.

Al-Mus-haf refers to the written form of the glorious Qur’an in the pages or a book that contains the lofty words of Allah; the Mightiest. Such a book is referred to us the Book of Allah as it contains nothing other than the words of Allah. It must not be touched except by one in the state of purity. Allah says:

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ

“None can grasp it except the purified.” (Al-Waaqi’ah:79)

The glorification of the Mus-haf is of no doubt the glorification of Allah, for it is His attribute of speech and it is His holy word. The ways of glorifying this Mushaf can be seen as follows:

It must be the ruling constitution with which people are judged . What is lawful therein should be treated as lawful and what is prohibited in it should be abstained.

Also, efforts must be made to learn it and memorize it. It must be taught to others with much emphasizes been placed on the implementation of its teachings and laws.

Al-Mushaf should be protected from coming in contact with impure and dirty substances, hence, it should not be entered into dirty places such as toilets and the likes. It must not also be used as pillows or placed at places where it is trampled.

Akin to the above, Al-Mushaf should not be given to children below the age of discretion. One should not also travel with it to the land of the enemies if he fears that they may show disrespect towards it.

Among the ways of glorifying Al-Mushaf is showing veneration to those who committed it to memory and are acting according to its teachings. They should be preferred over others in leading prayers. When it is being recited , attention should be given to its reciter and recitation. All these are ways of showing veneration to the ONE Who revealed the Qur’an. Al-Mushaf; which contains the Qur’an is among the sacraments of Allah.  Allah says:

ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى ٱلْقُلُوبِ

So it is. Whoever venerates the sacraments of God-it is from the piety of the hearts.” (Al-Hajj:32)
